In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail—just as she chronicles what happens when the dream finally comes true. Cast in a new Nickelodeon series called iCarly, she is thrust into fame. Though Mom is ecstatic, emailing fan club moderators and getting on a first-name basis with the paparazzi (“Hi Gale!”), Jennette is riddled with anxiety, shame, and self-loathing, which manifest into eating disorders, addiction, and a series of unhealthy relationships. These issues only get worse when, soon after taking the lead in the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande, her mother dies of cancer. Finally, after discovering therapy and quitting acting, Jennette embarks on recovery and decides for the first time in her life what she really wants.

我承认一开始的确是冲着书名去的，但更多也是想看看别人是怎么处理和自恋型父母的关系。写这种书需要莫大的勇气，将自己从六岁就开始的噩梦般的人生一点一点剥离给读者看。从最早在母亲的意志下当童星，到青春期开始被abusive的母亲“鼓励”节食，再到后来患上bulimia，然后花了二十代漫长的时间挣扎着治疗、反复、治疗、再反复。她的人生从来就没有属于过她自己，都是在被母亲掌控和虐待的基础上建立起来的。于是当她第一次决定去therapy，提到母亲让自己节食，咨询师说你的母亲是在虐待你，她觉得自己好像又回到了11岁那个无助茫然，在铺天盖地的溺水感中只能抓紧母亲的小女孩。读到这里，作者在录音中深深地吸了口气，太痛苦了。

承认第一眼被标题吸引到 第一次读一本以前没听说过的明星的回忆录 读的时候太让人窒息了 这样的母亲真的很难让人称为母亲 很让人心痛 很高兴看着作者一步步走向Recovery 要是描写这部分的篇幅再多一些就更好了

现代名人回忆录佳作！标题看着有点煽动性，作者本人也说她想吸引大家来看书，总结下来其实主旨是“i\’m happier after my mom died”

absolutely amazingly written and performed. Jennette\’s sense of humor and voice are very strong and her ability to act really enhanced the listening experience. her story was truly heartbreaking and there were several times I physically recoiled at the things her mother and \”the creator\” did to her. the ending was inspiring and hopeful and the final chapter is a fantastic conclusion to this memoir. hope to see more writing from Jennette!!

Jennette McCurdy starred in Nickelodeon’s hit show iCarly and its spin-off, Sam & Cat, as well as in the Netflix series Between. In 2017, she quit acting and began pursuing writing/directing. Her films have been featured in the Florida Film Festival, the Salute Your Shorts Film Festival, Short of the Week, and elsewhere. Her essays have appeared in HuffPost and The Wall Street Journal. Her one-woman show I’m Glad My Mom Died had two sold-out runs at the Lyric Hyperion Theatre and Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles. She hosts a podcast called Empty Inside, which has topped Apple’s charts and features guests speaking about uncomfortable topics. She lives in Los Angeles.
